To our beloved Catharsis Community,
Out of an abundance of caution, and in accordance with the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation this past Sunday that gatherings of 50 or more people should be postponed or canceled for the following eight weeks to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (see note below), the members of Catharsis on the Mall’s Trunk, Rings, and Roots have decided to postpone our 2020 Vigil for Healing, scheduled for Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3, 2020.
This community event, which would’ve marked the 6th annual Catharsis on the National Mall, is supported each year by well over 100 volunteers, including artists, theme camps and performers. Our team has been closely monitoring updates and public health practices related to COVID-19 and is following current guidelines to reduce any possible exposure.
This also means the fundraiser planned for this Thursday at A Baked Joint has been canceled, as part of Monday’s Prohibition of Mass Gatherings from DC Government as they apply to restaurants and taverns only being open for delivery and grab-and-go (see note below).
We are considering options for rescheduling this event later in 2020 and returning to May for 2021. But in the meantime, keeping our community safe and informed is a priority. So we are sharing city recommendations below. If there is a shining light here it is that we have proof just how interconnected people are globally and that it is through working together that we can and will address the challenges of our time.

There’s also another Facebook group for DC area residents (which is unaffiliated with Catharsis), DC Neighbors Helping Each Other through COVID-19.
